Further career development on the horizon for Craig Selan

“I am humbled to say that Consort has contributed significantly to my career. I’ve been fortunate enough to work for a company that has nurtured me through its wonderful training program – from a trainee up to a senior officer within the fleet.”

In an effort to strengthen the relationship between land and sea operations, one of Consort’s Chief Mate’s, Craig Selan, has been undergoing on-the-job training at our Lae office.

Craig has gained invaluable experience within each department and hopes to use this knowledge when out at sea.

After completing his high school certificate in 2003, Craig joined Consort Express Lines as a cadet and has worked his way up from trainee to Chief Mate.

“I am humbled to say that Consort has contributed significantly to my career. I’ve been fortunate enough to work for a company that has nurtured me through its wonderful training program – from a trainee up to a senior officer within the fleet.”

Craig has achieved his Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 1 and, as Chief Mate, is responsible for ensuring that the loading of cargo and wellbeing of all crew onboard are well managed, while also keeping navigational watch at sea along with the Captain.

“Consort’s management have a great vision for the future in staff training and improvements for modern working conditions onboard the vessels” said Craig.

With 15 years of experience up his sleeve, Craig says he feels a sense of gratitude working as a seafarer in Papua New Guinea.

“Apart from my qualifications, I am always grateful that my kind of work has been a humanitarian one, in the sense that I am contributing to providing a service to my country, especially when we transport shipments of goods and services to remote ports of the country” said Selan.

“I feel grateful and blessed when I see how much people appreciate the services we provide…”

Craig says he is “excited and ready” to embrace the vision that Consort has for him and personally believes it will lead to many positive prospects in his career.

Consort offers various graduate and recruitment training programs to target and support local talent to further their careers within the maritime industry.
